Hi Sean, Forget about it! From your post it appears that you're short on $$$ and technical experience, so you shouldn't approach a technical procedure as complex as this one will be. Think of this procedure as a mechanical sex-change operation and image how complex(and expensive)it might be! My sincere advice is to take the money you have and FIX the automatic transmission! I have a '91 Westy MV and a '90 DoKa, both automatics and the transmissions work fine!!!! Installing an older manual transmission does NOT increase powertrain "reliability" over that already provided by a fully serviced automatic transaxle. You have performed the VW recommended service on your present auto transaxle, haven't you???
