Looks interesting,
make it a bit more hemispherical and you'll have old farts like D. Beierl
and A, Knoll buying them so that they can shoot some fixes with their
sextants before going to bed."
Yeppo, I use them sextants, all the time, door stop, heave at noisy cats,
chock the wheels...useful, yeppo. But to get a sextant high enough so you
can view the horizon you gotta have one helluva dome.
Up there in the wilds of canada, where the sun don't shine and the moose are
nervous, news travels slowly...Alistair sitting on his bicycle in the dark,
dreams of real transportation and longingly waits for the first light of
spring so he can shoot the sun and figure out where in the heck he is, while
those of us south of the arctic circle bask in the sun and check the GPS for
position, instantly, day or night, cloudy or clear, mountains or plains,
Sextant, yeppo, I use em, see above.
As a certifiable retro-grouch, I do make a few concessions to technology. A
nice delicate plastic protrusion on the roof is not one of said concessions.
MY skylight provided by Trevor of the great white north is a pleasing bronze
color which, should I need to, actually hinges upwards, so if one was
particularly inclined to see if the GPS worked through a hole in the
fiberglass one could do so with aplomb. When closed this fine device lets
the gentle rays of the sun in to bathe the soul in soft golden light.
Yo, Alistair, that's what the knobby thingy does. Try it when you find your
garage.
I recall a thanksgiving long ago and far away. Turkey wasn't served much in
the central highlands of the Republic of Vietnam the week John Kennedy was
killed. But then perhaps I'm just an old faht, nodding in the sun, dreaming
of finally getting the defects worked out of the van.
"But apart from that I don't see the pluses... minuses (for me) are a bigger
target when loading the canoe up top and not being able to sneak into some
garages."
Just how do you sneak into garages with a canoe on the roof?
pensioner ( doesn't need a canoe to find the garage in the dark )
