I've used it on our Jetta TD. It works as described, but there is a
downside. It tends to collect in the heater core, lessening the
efficiency thereof. You being in balmy Canada and all, I'm sure the
heater is of little concern, eh?

I'd have the head gaskets looked at, if'n I'er you.
