I'm looking for some input. Issue at hand: I have a customer's '86 Syncro (Tiico) here at my shop with some very noticeable vibrations in the drivetrain. It grows from almost nothing at 10 mph to a peak at 55 mph, then smoothes at 60 onward. I've pulled the driveshaft, same vibration remains. The shaft appears to be a remanufactured or new one, although one U-joint is slightly tight in one axis compared to the others. All CV joints have substantial play in them when twisting the axles. VC is good and functional. Draining the gearbox and front diff oil revealed no metal on the drain plug magnets. I replaced the right rear wheel bearings, that was very noisy and removed a bit of vibration, but not nearly all. I'm thinking the CVs are contributing to the vibration somewhat if not majorly, however the vibration at 55 mph does not worsen on or off throttle as worn CVs would tend to do. Has anyone seen a transmission or front diff produce that much vibration, even when the oil shows no internal problem? I'm semi-stumped and seeking input, before he throws money at it to correct the problem. My own Syncro with 392,000 km (original CV's and front diff) has virtually no vibration compared to this one. Hmmm...thanks for your input here.
