The fan relay should be much less than $100. Do a fan test first by removing the electrical harness at the fan thermoswitch and shorting the low and high speed terminals to ground. If your fan turns on, then you can rule out the relay and the fan motor. If the low speed doesn't work but the high does, I'd check the Fan Resistor. If both work, then it's either the thermoswitch or a coolant bleeding problem. If neither work, then you'll need to check the voltages of the high and low terminals to determine if it's the relay or the fan motor.

Have you overheated? How high does the temp gauge get?

Greetings

Am having a problem with my 87 westy. The radiator fan does not come on at all - a big problem in stop and go traffic. I've noticed in the PO receipts that the fan relay was replaced once for $100+. Does this sound like the probable cause? Is it difficult to replace? Does it have to cost $100+?
