This leans the exhaust to the point that the control system tries to compensate with a very rich setting which cannot possibly be completely burned in the other three cylinders. I had this happen once at night. When I finally limped home, in the darkness of my driveway, I could see the cat glowing cherry red. It was so hot, I called the kids out to have a weenie roast.
