Forget the bad lifter bit as reported by the mechanic. That sounds exactly the WBX lifter syndrome. With one quart down, add a can of Marvels Mysery Oil to the oil, run it for a hundred miles, change oil to 20W-50WT, and install a Mann filter and in all likelyhood - 90% - the lifter clatter will go away.
