Subject: Vanagon wiring harness fix on a Jetta?

Anyone ever heard of this before? This past weekend I went to a junkyard and saw a late 80's Jetta that had a Vanagon wiring harness fix (the short piece of wiring that goes between the afm and the original wire harness) on it. I thought it strange because I thought the problem to be isolated to Vanagons.

Anyone seen this before?
