List members,

Reluctantly, I am considering selling my 1982 Diesel Westfalia. If anyone is seriously interested in this vehicle, at the posted price, I will take some images and put them on the web.

140,000 (?) miles White exterior Brown Interior

The bad: * dinged up right rear quarter * dented rear hatch * fridge door latch not working (fridge worked on gas last summer) * leaking fuel injector pump * zipper on canvas tent top window broken * probably needs new muffler * I _think_ this van was caught in a flash flood in Zion National Park before I owned it. Parts of the under carriage were packed with twigs and mud. I have cleaned out the debris. It appears to have not gotten inside the vehicle... I can't see any evidence of flooding inside. The engine and transmission don't seem impacted either... I have driven the vehicle about 20,000 miles since purchase.

The good: * New (1-year) MP3 stereo and speakers (mp3 function not working, dirty???) * New (1-year) Costco light truck tires * Starts easily and runs strong (as strong as 47HP can run!) * Was told a previous owner had engine and transmission rebuilt * New pump for sink * Installed a florescent light above sink * new rear brakes * rust free except for dinged up areas. vehicle appears to have spent most of its 20 years in the dry deseret climate near here.

I am considering selling the vehicle for several reasons. First, although I really like the diesel engine, this van is just too slow for me on the freeway. It cruises at 55-60 mph, but slows to a crawl on serious grades (of which there are many in my area). The upside is that the engine delivers 27 mpg. The lack of air conditioning is also a problem for the area I live in. Lastly, the diesel fuel injection pump developed a leak about 2 weeks ago. I have not driven the van much since then. Looks like the seals on the cold start control need replacement. I was quoted around $300 at the local import shop. I can't find the time to do it myself... perhaps the right buyer would want to tackle this.

I have really enjoyed this van. It has been my daily driver for the past two years while the Honda Accord stayed in the garage. If it sells, I hope to get into a newer Westfalia sometime in the future.

The van is located in Saint George, Utah. This is the extreme SW corner of the state. Las Vegas is less than two freeway hours from here. A buyer could fly to Las Vegas and take a shuttle bus to St. George ($35). I think the van may be drivable to a buyer's home with the fuel injection pump leak. It seems to be worst on start up. This problem does need to be addressed soon though.

I am asking $3000.
