I like the old highways, but I wouldn't consider this a reason you have to take them if you don't want to. You won't be a 'long-haul nuisance' to anyone -- at most you'll be a nuisance to them for a moment, and then they'll move on. Just hold a steady, relaxed pace in the right lane.

I remember one day I was driving I-96 near Detroit in my Honda, working my way through the usual 70+ mph riot of churning, heavy traffic, and I passed a Microbus cruising sedately at 60 in the right lane. The driver was just sailing along, one hand on the wheel and his elbow on the window sill as traffic churned past. I bet that guy's blood pressure was a lot lower than mine.
