If you visit the Type2 list, you'll get the impression that air-cooled engines are overwhelmed with problems. -------------------- Clip ------------------------ You'll find that most people posting to the Type2 list are running modified engines trying to get enough horsepower to move their vehicles as reasonable speeds. The Type I and II power plants have abundant performance products offered at reasonable prices. The Type I and II engines turn higher RPMs in their short life of 35 to 50,000 miles. These engines are a lot less expensive to repair, check some prices. The Type IV engines and Waser Boxers have very little offered to improve their performance. Yes there are ratio rockers and Web cams, counterbalanced cranks and big valve heads ............. but I never (seldom) hear of anybody busting loose with the big bucks to make an expensive rebuild even more expensive. Mr. Robert Lilly has told the world how to build a great Waser Boxer ............... just do it. Then there is this statement that will probably be my ultimate hanging offense ........... most Vanagon owners are more conservative than the Bus owners .............. I didn't say cheap and I didn't mean cheap! I mean they prefer stock dependable engines.
