As far as cleaning an engine case in a dishwasher, I've done it several
times quite successfuly.  I always take them to the carwash and clean them
as well as I can, then at home with Simple Green and a garden hose.  I then
ran through the dishwasher and used Cascade.  I washed it 3 times.  I have a
friend who owned an automotive machine shop for many years, and this is how
he did aluminum heads, as the solutions he used were caustic to aluminum.
He later got a detergent-based washer for aluminum.  the dishwasher at home
would only hold one head and one of the case halves at a time, but was quite
effective.  As I am a bachelor, no discord problems!
