They have, of course, never been 2x4 unless they are rough cut.  I prefer them being planed to
3.5x1.5 (the current standard) since it makes the arithmetic easier than the old 3 5/8 by 1
5/8.  The only time the change is a hassle is when I am doing repairs to an old wall and have
to rip some studs on my table saw to match the old width.


Also, a good friend here (and mayor of our little town) has owned his own station (Exxon) for
30 years.  He has never heard of water being deliberately added to gas.
