Yeah, well they once were 2x4.  I had a house built in 1912 and all the
lumber sizes in it were full.  2x4, 2x12 floor joists, and so on.

 I had a couple of those houses.
If you want to drive a nail you have to drill a hole in the yellow pine
studs for it to go into.
