Hi Mike, Don't know what year we're talking about, but one possibility would be the catalytic converter. If the material inside breaks loose, it can turn sideways and block exhaust gases at higher revs. Check it by removing the muffler and look inside the cat. It's pretty obvious if it's plugged or disintegrating. tx, bmc :)
