You do not have to apologize for stating your opinion... it's all good. There will always be folks who disagree with your opinions though (as you obviously disagree with mine... also all good).

While I am not a historian, I have to doubt that anything 200 some odd years old is the longest running anything in the world. Cologne celebrated their 2000th birthday about 10 years ago, and there are many cities worldwide which have histories in the thousands of years.

Regarding the crime rates and highschool shootings.... if one has, for example 1 million brutal murders a year, and that rate drops 1% a year for 20 years... then you still have a lot of innocent dead people... right? And if you have ANY school shootings, at all, then that, quite frankly, is one school shooting too many. I admit, that the brutality and violent crime is indeed infecting European countries.... I personally feel that it has a lot to do with American media, culture, and entertainment.... but that is my opinion, and there are many other factors mixed in to this complex topic. We will not solve this world problem on the Vanagon list.

Generalizations are most often subjective and innacurate (there, I just made a generalization) but from my own 20+ years of driving, it is my opinion that driving in the many areas in America that I have driven can be more stressful, than in the many areas I have driven in in Europe.

Bottom line is, it probably does not help much to make comparisons in an attempt to determine which one is "better"... but comparisons can perhaps help, when people are open-minded, in order to illuminate that there is a diversity of ideas, systems and actions, outside ones own limited (by necessity, as we cannnot all be everywhere at once) field of view and perspective.

We live and learn... hopefully we evolve, and become better... and then somehow, the entire world becomes better.

IMPORTANT!!! In order to reply to me, you must have the word "FISH" somewhere in the subject line of the email. Otherwise it goes directly in the trash.
