Not really. I don't do it when I'm first in line at the light, but I do if I'm farther back. By the time the cars in front of me move, I'm already in gear.

At night you can watch the visor over the yellow for the cross street, when you see the reflection of the yellow light in it you shift into gear. You're ready long before the light changes to green for you.

It's less tiring for my left leg, and it causes less wear on the throwout bearing.
