Subject: thermostat temp vs thermo switch temp - 87 westy
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed
Greetings,
First of all thanks for all the help diagnosing my radiator fan not cycling
problem. Turned out to be a poor fan ground and the thermal switch lower
temp not functioning. I've ordered an 80 degree switch (out of ignorance)
but I fear my thermostat is an 87 degree'r. Normal operating temp shows
just at the top of the LED. I'm trying to get the van up and ready for a
trip out of town in a couple days and the new switch should arrive tomorrow.
Also have to replace that nasty tee piece on the passenger side. What a
pain! I'm wondering if my fan and thermostat are incompatible and are going
to fight each other. Can the thermostat be replaced without losing too much
coolant - thinking of replacing it later and using the fan fuse to control
temp till I can get ahold of a lower temp thermostat. Or am I asking for
trouble by screwing up something when I replace the thermostat?(old crusty
parts and all) The thermoswitch I pulled out has the numbers 251 953 481 D
on it which does not match the part numbers on the bus depot site for
thermoswitches so I'm not sure what I had in there before.
Ordered a 251 959 481 K. I also have problems when refilling the coolant in
that the temp gage pegs(yikes) before the thermostat opens up - at least I
assume thats what's going on
