In Virginia (at least) they won't just forget about it. Either they'll make you deal with it next time you register, or definately the next time you have to deal with the courts. Either way, the additional fines and risk of losing your liscence make it fool-hardy. The traffic ticketing systems I've seen take a series of photos: of you, the intersection, your car going through the light and your plate. It's pretty hard to argue against them since they've covered every angle. If they don't have images then you might have a chance at beating it.

Required Vanagon content: checked on my coolant drip and nothing dripped last night -- but this morning as the car was warming up I could see a few drops falling. When it's warmer tomorrow I'll see what I can find. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions (here's hoping that it's a hose and not the water pump).
