Yet another climber here. 15 years, rock, alpine and ice. Most of that time spent living a half hour from Smith Rock and the amazing Oregon Cascades. For ice it gets a little more frustrating: travel a lot or climb wet mountain roadcuts at night (they will freeze for a few hours) or on waterfalls the very few really cold days we get in Oregon. if anyone knows of decent ice within a half day's drive from Portland, I'm all ears.
