As one of the volks who had my sights on those ebay wheels prior to the
public service announcement, I wanted to add my two cents to this topic
before it and the alloys I won't be able to afford are gone.
I couldn't agree more with Tim's original comments about sharing (i.e,
broadcasting to the universe) this kind of info. This info is obviously not
in the interests of any buyers already involved, especially those buyers
who are unable to pay top dollar, since the price is bound to skyrocket. In
fact, even the newcomers are more or less screwed since, interestingly, the
very news about the "bargain" pretty much guarantees that the bargain will
disappear. Seems pretty clear that such news most benefits the seller and
those prospective buyers who don't really need bargains. Thus, your
feelings about the tip are relative for the most part, dependent on your
particular situation and relation to the item.
This is not to say that the informant's altruism/intentions are in
question, although for all I know the informant could be the seller or the
seller's associate (just kidding . . . kind of)!
