<P>I had this same problem recently. It is probably the smell of leaking coolant out of the heater core. Is the smell reminiscent of maple syrup? If it is the front heater core that is causing the smell then I don't know what to tell you. I have heard this is a tough job though. However if the smell is from the rear it may not be too difficult to resolve. Check out Ben Huot (sp?) website. He gives a very thourough account of removing the rear heater core. Removing the heater core can be messy. You may have to drain the collant first (I did, but I was doing a couple other things at the time). When you remove the heater core if the green and white coolant is just around teh O-ring you are in luck cuase that is really cheap and easy to replace. If it is around the heater core then it will cost you about $80 to replace. Again take a look at Ben's website. It has great pictures and directions. All it really is is removing screws and cleaning up coolant. I hope this long winded answer helps.</P>

<DIV></DIV>I had previously posted a problem with my interior smelling like exhaust. Well I got it partially fixed. At the time I had a small oil leak and it was collecting on a hot surface and causing bad smells in the cabin. Well I got the oil leak fixed and that fixed the problem, partially. Back then it was warm outside and so I hadn't been using the heater. Now that the snow is falling, I am noticing that as soon as I turn the heater on, the bad smells start coming in again. I am not mechaniclaly inclined but I did get a bentley and if it is just an unconnected hose or something i could probably handle it. any suggestions? Another thing I noticed is that no matter what i do with the heater levers, the air coming out of the defrost vents by the windshield is always cold. That is not how it should be is it? it's an air cooled 83 westy.Thanks,Gordy
