A broken cylinder head stud is the most dangerous aspect of retorqueing your heads. If your motor has quite a few miles on it, and if the head studs have any corrosion (very possible), there is a good chance that one, or more, will snap during the retorque. It's not worth the risk unless you know the condition of your head studs.

Is there any danger in having the heads of my 1.9L engine professionally retorqued? I am hoping to minimize combustion gases going in to the coolant and try to get another few months from the engine?
