Subject: plastic guides for sliding window N/A
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

The two plastic guides for the each slider window on the early Vanagons is no longer available from the VW dealer. These plastic guides slide the moving part of the window on the windows track and are white on the earlier Vanagons (say 80-85)

The guide for the later busses (86+)which are black and slightly different in that they have two tabs the white guides don't have are available. Can these later guides be used on the earlier Vanagon sliding windows? And what modification is necessary--cut the tabs off the black guides? Do the guides need to be glued into the window?

Seems to me the earlier white guides had no tabs and that might explain why all mine are missing. Having tried to mount used old style white ones (if you can believe I found them and uninstalled them from a wreck without them crumbling) I have found they just fall right the heck out after a few days. I'd like to get the black guides in and stop a bit of the slider window rattle, not to mention the nails-on-a-blackboard squeal when I open or close the windows.

TIA Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
