I just swapped out mine when I changed out my water pump. Even with the pump out of the way, it took some work to get it out. I ended up using a 24mm 12-point 1/2"-drive standard depth socket and my 1/2" breaker bar to get it out.

You could also remove the muffler, rear engine hanger and tinwork to get access to it. If you go this route, replace your motor mounts if they haven't ever been renewed.
