HE he he, i now own a 73 and a 84 GL. 73 interiors: http://www.letambourin.com/westfalia_ben/west73d.jpg

Narrow bed...this is a narrow bed, and NO bed up there either. But the older bay-bus are so beautiful to look at (Vanagon exterior look sucks, reminds me of the K-car era!!!) It's an all-new adventure to cook, sleep, eat in that sardine can!!!!!! Basically the pre-73 model have all the good basic stuff, a sink and a nice big cooler. (no need for a second cooler like in the Vanagon) The rear facing jump seat is so nice, you can eat face to face for those romantic evening, the louvered windows are so much better than the vanagon sliding one. The only problem is the sink/cooler on the passenger side, it's in the way... difficult to close the sliding door from inside.

In the vanagon: The sink is a must, you can also pee in this one when to cold...or to drunk (he he he, just a joke - NOT!!!) The stove is not a must, as fish cooking smells for one week, so you're are limited to spaghetti sauce and soup!!!! Over-all, the fridge "sucks", it's to small for those long trip and is cooling capacity are marginal on propane.

In conclusion, the 73 is very similar to an non GL (Weekender)vanagon version but with the addition of the sink and cooler unit. This one is also removable (on mine) in no time.

I still miss my very clean and modern 87GL full camper westy... Cheers, Ben http://www3.sympatico.ca/huotx/engine1.htm
