For anyone who's emerged from under their Vanagon covered head to toe in CV grease after this particularly messy (albeit not horribly difficult) job, I have great news.

I now have, for the first time in years, NEW (not rebuilt) U.S. made complete rear axle shafts for 1.9L and 2.1L Vanagons. These are completely assembled and ready to bolt on, with CV's, boots, grease, etc. already installed. No hassle, no mess. They are NOT rebuilt like the ones found at Autozone etc. (which, I am told, have used sandblasted shafts, oversized bearings, and boots of unknown origin). Everything on these is completely brand new.

The best news is, this simpler option WON'T cost you any more money. At $114 for one shaft, including 2 CV boots and joints, it's about the same as the price of new joints and boots alone - and you get a new shaft as well. So, you could say that for the price of joints and boots, the Bus Depot gives you the shaft. :-) (sorry, couldn't resist...)

These will, of course, fit the rear of a Syncro as well. However they will not fit aircooled or diesel vans, or any van with an auto trans. I will have a version for manual trans aircooled Vanagons coming soon. Part # is 251 501 203G. Two required for one vehicle. In stock for immediate shipment. Price includes listmember discount, which you must request in the "comments" section of the website order form.
