why do people put spoilers on their cars? why do people put alloy wheels on their cars? or do custom paint jobs? it's the look.. to customize and personalize..to each his own. remember the "blue dots" in the late 50's '60's where people drilled holes in their taillights and put the blue dot in and it gave the taillight a purple glow? well, colored/tinted/smoked/clear taillights/lenses are the latest rage now. even Hella (the people who make the OEM VW Lenses) makes them in assorted colors for the golf/jetta, etc.. blue, green, you name it. yep, green taillights. go to a watercooled vw show (or hell, hang out at the local mall :<) and you'll see what i mean.. chris
