As others have indicated, the Westy's roof is different, and probably not applicable to your setup.

On the other paw, there are reinforcing members in the GL roof (above the liner), you should be able to put short bolts into them (with a thin nut in the member itself) to support your shelves. That's how the AC is mounted. You will be compromising your roof's structural rigidity somewhat if you cut too much of the reinforcing member. That's probably only a concern in a rollover. I can see putting a Vanagon on to its side, but onto its roof would take a VERY energetic accident.
