Use no sealant on either upper or lower O-rings? Use the copper stuff where?

I'm in the middle of this operation too, also on a 2.1. The last motor I worked on tho this extent (not including about 30 Vespa and Lambretta motors in the meantime) was a 1700cc 1973 t4. I had no trouble with coolant containment on that one. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Condelli" <RAlanen@AOL.COM> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Saturday, December 28, 2002 5:35 AM Subject: Re: putting 2.1 back together

Change the lower o-rings or you'll be taking it apart again. No sealant on the o-rings. Throw the Dirko in the nearest garbage can ! Use Permatex or Loctite Ultra Copper High Temp Silicon Sealant. Check the archives on this and you will see that we have discussed this matter innumerable times. Good luck and If I were you I get that motor out of the van. You cannot do a proper job with the motor in the van.
