After looking everywhere for a suitable lumbar pad (suitable to my price range and desired shape), I finally found a solution: Digging around in the attic of my shop revealed an old VW Rabbit rear seat, which donated it's back support cushion with a little threat from a carpet knife. A little measuring and shaping with the aforementioned carpet knife, and I ended up with a chunk of foam exactly as I had imagined, and the best part was it was FREE! The installation was a breeze, the Vanagon seats pop apart quite easily, after removing the pivot covers and the two 6mm allen bolts. This allows enough pivot room to open the four little pointed clips holding the upholstery in place at the bottom of the seatback. Sliding the pads in place and then reassembling the seat was simple. Finished product feels great, even better in the wallet! Road test report to come, after the FMBC New Years Resolution campout. Now, to make the custom headrest cushions...
