Single owner Vanagon. Carefully maintained with all records available. Reference available to the shop that has maintained it since 1995. Engine, transmission, clutch and other mechanicals are in great shape. New cylinder heads within the past 5,000 miles. New starter. HOWEVER ... within the past week this nice Vanagon was rear-ended at a stoplight. Rear bumper is destroyed. Rear panel surrounding licence plate area was caved in about three inches. Right rear lighting assembly was destroyed. Muffler was dented and should be replaced. Tailpipe to muffler was bent. At this point the Vanagon starts, runs fine, and exhaust is quiet (like normal). Overall, it is driveable except for the safety issue of the taillight assembly. Without the bodywork repairs, it would NOT pass a DMV safety inspection. THE PERFECT BUYER will be looking for a strong engine / clutch / transmission for a vintage Vanagon, or will have the mechanical facilities to repair it cheaply. A quality auto body shop has given a written estimate of $2,800 to repair the rear-end damage and muffler. I would allow another $400 for the risk of mechanical fixes to the exhaust. It is our "fourth" car, and to us it just isn't worth $3,200 to put it back on the road. Phone (703)273-0242.
