Some of the rotors I have seen are just plain stuck on there and I have had to break a few to get them off. Usually they should just pull off - but, if you have a new one at hand and you carefully crush the old one with some pliers I can't see the problem - just don't get bits stuck inside the distributor.

My 88 Westy has a very burnt distributor cap (inside) and the rotor doesn't look much better.

Replacing the cap is simple, but what about the rotor? Is it a simple matter of removing the cap and pulling on the rotor until it decides to pop off? Or, do I need to "crush" the old rotor, as suggested by another non-Vanagon owner?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
