My buddy Jero and his four girls stayed until almost 9pm. 'Twas him who asked the 12 or so Christmas Tree burners to come over. They were shivering in the cold after they used up their 3 discarded trees. Jero's daughters (even the teeny tiny one) had piled Mike Miller's woodpile onto the burning mesh. They replaced fireboi Eldon Miller (yes, son to that other Miller -- poor Eldon). Anyway, by the time the rest of the wood really caught on, the flames had risen to just over 7-8 feet high. Welcome sight to the shivering neighbors. As a symbolic gesture to the missing engine case that the comedy team of Mike & Al intended to burn, I placed a Diet Pepsi can in the flames. It lasted a good 2-3 minutes before it was vaporized to nothingness. The heat was so intense that I wondered it there would be molten glass at the bottom on the fire pit by morning. More cold neighbors came. Perfect time to turn over the fire to the shivering bunch. Bye-bye. BenT Vanagon Cafe |
