Yes, that is true. The gasoline turbo Audi 5000 cars sold in North America starting with the 1984 model year all do have the extra flywheel timing sensors, according to the Audi Factory Service info I just looked at. Up to 83 models do not and none of the non-turbo 5000 models have them in the 1979-1988 5000 models my manuals covered.
