Ultimately it probably depends on your level of mechanical skill and what you want from the van. Any conversion will require a fair amount of tinkering to get right, and you may have trouble getting a mechanic to work on it. If you do some archive searches, you'll notice that people who do conversions often have a lot of minor annoyances to fix, like exhaust systems that break up and new noise problems.
