Subject: rough idling and running
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I just experienced a dramatic change in engine idle and running smotheness in my 86 vanagon. After a couple of hours of use with no problems, and upon restarting my car, a little pressure on the gas produced choking, backfiring and stalling, to the extent that I quickly shut the engine down. The oil was about 1 quart low. After letting the car cool down for a couple of hours. I brought the oil up and it ran fine for 5 or 6 miles and then again it went into the choking backfiring mode. Upon being completely warmed up it subsided some, but was still idling roughly.

Not sure where to start looking for the problem, but there have been so many times where someone on this list suggested a simple fix that saved me major $ that I thought I would start here first. Thanks in advance.

Jeff Hartman Juneau, AK
