Sleep up top!

The wife and I used to sleep together on the lower bunk, but when the twins came along we split the sleeping arrangements up. I drew the short straw and so I got the upstairs bunk with my son. He is a restless sleeper so the main idea was to protect him from falling out in the middle of the night. The side benefit was room for me to stretch out a bit. What I did was to make a 3/8" plywood board to fit between the bunk end and slide over the top latching tab in the front. Sits at a slight upward angle but could be made to sit flat by enlarging the hole for the tab to fit through. Side to side it rests on top of the metal edges of the of the opening. Being "only" 6'5" I didn't need much more space so I have never padded it at all, I just rest my pillow on it. The only drawback is that it blocked heat from getting to us. Solved that problem with a small 12 volt fan running on a low speed to draw some of the heated warm air up to us. Another option would be to make it out of a mesh or grid of some sort. When driving this board fits between the folded mattress up top. If you want pics of this just let me know and I can go out and take some and send them to you. Hope this helps!
