Ack - vise grips on a battery!!! I use a piece of string and make a cradle around the battery. Simple lift in and pull out!

The method that I used after the FLAPS guy couldn't figure out how to perform the free installation they advertised was to grab one post with vise grips and the other with a large pair of pliers. As long as you don't let the two touch, its possible to lift the battery out. Two vise grips would work even better.
