I don't know if the "metal plate" you describe 'grinding away' is the same as on the type 3 and type 4 injectors, but if it is (a round metal jeeber at the end of the fuel line, right next to the fuel injector, on the nipple), you *DO NOT* want to grind it away; it is the hose clamp.

You cut the fuel line off the injector nipple, and pull it off, leaving the circular clamp. Next, use an X-acto knife to cut-out/remove the end of the hose that remains inside the clamp. The clamp will now be loose at the base of the barbed nipple, roughly shaped like a small top-hat, but with a hole in the middle for the nipple to pass through.

Cut the fuel line for the injector to length, shove it on the barbed nipple until it fully seats inside the clamp. No amount of pulling will remove the hose from this type of clamp. Smile at German ingenuity, and drink a large frosty German beer.

> Happy New Year to all of you. I am in the process of replacing my fuel lines on my 1987 Vanagaon with 2.1 and would like to hear form you good folks on a couple of issues i have. > Is there a special type of fuel line i must use? I am not sure how much pressure the FI system generates. Any idea how many feet of fuel line i will need? What did you folks do for the short (3") fuel line that goes from the injectors to the fuel rail? These 4 hoses are part of the injector. Do these also develop leaks in the long run? I have heard that what can be done on these injector lines is: is cut fuel line with a sharp knife and use a dremel to grind away the small metal "plate" that holds the line to the injector. Then you simply cut a new length of line to replace and add to a clamp to secure to the injector line. Any one try this out there? > I thnks you in advance for your advice. > Claudio Cella > 87 Vanagon GL 7 passenger > 90 Jetta TD
