Subject: question about bad sound when releasing clutch pedal
Content-Type: text/plain

Before asking my question, I should say that I just drove 3000 uneventful miles during the last two weeks, so my '87 camper is doing well in general.

Meanwhile, however, I've noticed a grinding/gurgling sound (coming from the rear somewhere) when releasing the clutch pedal. The sound is not audible when the pedal is completely depressed, but as I start to lift my foot in either first gear or reverse, the grinding/gurgling begins. The sound diminishes as I raise my foot, and it seems to be gone once my foot is off of the pedal. The sound could be happening in other gears, but if this is the case, the engine noise prevents me from detecting any grinding. Do any of you have any ideas what this sound might be?

The clutch was replaced 10,000 miles ago, and I'm a gentle driver. The transmission has not been serviced for at least four years. It should also be noted that other than the sound, I'm experiencing NO shifting/driving/running problems.

Please let me know if any other information would be useful, and thank you all, in advance, for your assistance.

David '87 GL camper 186k
