When you're broke down, you're your own best mechanic. All you *need* is a ride to the parts house and a place to spread the wrenches. Airhead or no, they will and do help out. BTDT.

I've been an AIRS member since Charley Ford floated the idea. In that time, I've helped out half a dozen people and had half a dozen folks *aware* that my wife was passing through their area. Read the FAQ.

"AIRS is dedicated to assisting the intrepid VW traveler when facing the occasional breakdown (of either yourself or your trusted VW). AIRS is a loosely knit group of volunteers of varying abilities who take the time to help other drivers in need. The number of AIRS members is growing daily. There is no president, no dues, no central location, and no shows. AIRS is NOT a loan, babysitting, bail, or towing service. If you need any of those types of things you might do well to look elsewhere. If you need help with your VW, or want to meet someone new that is willing, this is a place you can turn to when on the road. "

Nowhere does it say "the intrepid AIRCOOLED VW" traveler.

Wife says, "It was nice to know that there were people... if I broke down or got scared or whatever..."

That's what being a member of this VW community is all about. I may not know Digifants, but I know someone who knows someone... And together *we* solve the problem.
