The stock unit in my 85 GL is approximately 5 & 7/8 inches deep, 7 inches wide and 2 1/16 high.
There is a metal brace in back that could be removed to fit a deeper unit???
 Crutchfield has a list of head units that fit the stock configuration. Not the widest selection though.
