Since you said race "car", I am assuming it is something that weighs much less than a Vanagon or worse a Westy. I plain vanilla air-cooled bug weighs in at about 2400 lbs. (probably). A Vanagon can weigh in at 4200-5600 lbs. That's a huge difference that needs to be factored in when considering options such as this.
