Jeff, at least one of the claims they make about their ECU upgrade chips is highly suspect. That does not mean that the chip is not worthwhile but it raises a red flag to me.

"Upgrading to premium fuel is not a must with this chip,but it will improve overall engine performance so much you will never use lesser fuel again. This is achieved bymore frequent gathering of engine operating parameters such as fuel quality..."

AFAIK, there is nothing in the Vanagon Digifant system that gathers data on fuel quality so this chip can't know whether you have premium or regular. I believe that premium is well advised as they may be advancing the engine timing to get more performance. As no knock sensor is used in Vanagon engine management systems engine damaging knock may well be a concern with the chip unless premium is used.
