I don't think so. I could be wrong, but...

On eBay you put in your bid and a MAXIMUM bid you are willing to pay. If someone else comes along and outbids your current bid, your bid is automatically upped to cover the new bid (up to your maximum.) So it is entirely possible someone else was trying to bid and that single bidder had a sufficient maximum bid to exceed whatever the other person was putting in.
