Subject: Re: Sliding rear window

The South African Vanagon (Microbus) in production until 2002 had one side rear sliding window on the driver's side. The rear side window on the passenger side was fixed. (the windows in the slider and right behind the driver were also slider like on the 80-91 Vanagons.)

Earlier list discussion hypothesised the fixed rear window on the passenger side was to avoid someone losing and arm or worse while hanging it out the window as the sliding door is opened. "MOM! Now Junior lost HIS head, too!"

Catch with the South African Vanagon (Microbus) is of course they are right hand drive. So the driver's side window that opens could only be mounted on the passenger side in the States--and then there is the guillatine problem again.

Also the late model, that is say 1999 or so model, South African Vanagon (microbus) has larger side windows than the American-offered Vanagons So the fit, I'm guessing, would be near impossible. BUT, I wonder if some of the earlier year Vanagons in South Africa (say the 1995) had the same size side windows as the American Vanagons, and were available as a slider. And then if VWSA sells the sliding windows that would fit in the Vanagons fo 80-91.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Are pics on the net of the slider that was purchased through e-bay and or the one's for sale in Britain?
