I did my water pump a couple of months ago and never bled the system using the Bentley method. I simply raise the rear of the van so the top of the main coolant tank is at the same level as the bleeder screw on the radiator. Make sure both heater valves are closed. Then I open the coolant tank cap and syphon all of the coolant into my spare antifreeze jug (recovered almost 1 gallon).

Go ahead and R&R your water pump, putting a clean drain pan underneath it to catch any coolant (I got less than a cup, enough to fill the gallon recovery jug the rest of the way).

When your done with the R&R, open the radiator bleeder and fill the coolant tank. I got all but 1/2 pint back in. Squeeze the hoses between the right head and the coolant distribution tower and the distribution tower and the thermostat housing to force any air bubbles out. Cap the overflow tank, close the bleeder and put the remaining coolant in the overflow tank.

Lower the van and test drive, after the engine is warm, open the heater valves and drive somemore. Re-check the coolant level in the overflow tank filling as necessary.

I've put over 3000 miles on the new water pump and never added any additional coolant.

Good luck,
