I'd suggest paying no attention to the gauge. Fill the tank at the beginning and end of the trip and use the actual mileage. My'91 Westy gauge would stay on "full" for 60-70 miles before creeping down. My current '87 Syncro Westy begins moving as soon as I pull out of the gas station. I agree that at about the half-way point there is still much more than a half tank left but I just don't use the gauge for that purpose anymore. I've also found where the "critical" point is on this gauge when it gets low, and I have about a gallon more now than on my "91 at the same gauge point. Just my expereince. Bob
