Subject: Propane in Mexico
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi all, Just returned from a trip to Mexico's pacific coast. what a beautiful country! I highly recommend it to anyone; don't belive all the horror stories you've heard.

The van, with a new Tiico motor ran well, not flawless, but well. Looks like I'll have to do a little more tinkering with the second battery...

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with filling the westy propane tank in Mexico. Cars that run on propane are a dime a dozen down there, there's nearly as many propane stations as gas stations. However, in Mazatlan, a city of a half million, the auto-propane places refused to sell me propane for the tank, saying it had additives in it and was only for engines. People went well out of their way to make sure I went to the place where you get the little barbecue tanks filled- a dusty lot with two huge tanks on trailers. Someone told us this was the ONLY place in town to get gas for cooking. They were able to fill my tank, and it ran fine. But it seems like it would be a hassle to track down such a place every time one needs propane. Any comments?

BTW, if anyones headed down that way, I highly recommend the area of Teacapan, its about 60 mi. south of Mazatlan. There's all these estuaries, coconut palms, free camping on the beach, dolphins, friendly people, etc....

Cheers, Jeff
